Business solutions for the Port of Riga

For many centuries Riga has been a place where travellers, traders and seafarers roads and interests cross but the Port of Riga has always been a gateway between East and West. Also today, the Port of Riga has not lost his place in the transit business; on the contrary, the transit cargo volumes will only increase from year to year. Jaunzeltiņi is one of the logistics businesses which have been successfully operating in the Port of Riga for many years. One of the fastest-growing terminals in the Port of Riga during the last years is the Riga Universal terminal, which has invested considerable resources in the territory, warehouses and machinery in order to increase the cargo turnover through its territory, including containerized and oversized cargo. Jaunzeltiņi logistics centre and warehouses are also located in the area, allowing setting new and higher development goals regarding the organization of cargo flows through the Riga Universal terminal.

Storage areas and their effective use is a key factor for any port and logistics sector company. It is not difficult to build a new warehouse, unless there are sufficient financial resources, but the most important factor is a rational and prudent use of warehouses. At the beginning of the current year, Jaunzeltiņi has made an investment in reconstruction of its closed storage areas and increased the utilizable space of these warehouses for cargo handling up to 5000 m2. Warehouses are equipped with rail and road ramps, allowing us to handle up to 10 freight wagons simultaneously. Different kinds of cargoes are handled, inter alia, foodstuff and veterinary cargoes, so the warehouses are mutually separated and some of them are certified in accordance with the requirements of the Food and Veterinary Service.

Cargo turnover rate is a critical factor that affects capacity of warehouses, their effective use and competitiveness of every logistics company. Cargo turnover and movement rate are affected by many factors, which are often not predictable. Experience and market research allows us to forecast the flows of goods, weather conditions and their impact on transport. In order to ensure the necessary quantity of wagons, Jaunzeltiņi timely signed contracts with private wagon owners, thus ensuring the necessary wagons for cargo flow even in the situation when the Port of Riga started running out of wagons of shared use.
